Code of Conduct

For the Bachata Dominicana Copenhagen dance community — for students, teachers, and all participants at events, workshops, socials, and classes.

We want to create the best learning environment – and we are excited to include you!

Respect

Participate with respect for everyone in our community. Bullying, harassment, or any form of unwanted physical contact — regardless of background, gender, age, nationality, or identity — is not tolerated.

Consent

Ensure all interactions — on and off the dance floor — are consent-based. Always ask before dancing with someone, and always accept a polite refusal graciously.

Space

Be mindful of others on the dance floor. In crowded spaces, use smaller steps and limited arm movements to create a positive experience for everyone around you.

Feedback

Feedback is appreciated when given in appropriate settings. The social dance floor is not a teaching space unless your partner explicitly asks for guidance — partners should not expect instruction during social dances.

Hygiene

Be mindful of body odour, perspiration, breath, and overall cleanliness. We dance close — consider bringing a spare shirt, deodorant, or gum to longer events.

Inclusion

Our community is inclusive and non-discriminatory, welcoming all skill levels, backgrounds, and identities.

Inviting to Dance

When you’d like to dance with someone, ask them verbally or extend your hand (without grabbing). Declining with a polite “no thank you” is always acceptable for both leaders and followers — no explanation is needed.

Level Awareness

Dance partners may have different experience levels. Start at a common level before attempting advanced combinations — a great connection at a simple level is always more enjoyable than a forced complex one.

We welcome feedback on this code of conduct. If you experience or witness behaviour that violates this code, please speak with a member of staff or contact us at klk@bachatacopenhagen.dk.
